| This annual event commemorates the April 24, 1790 sprint down the Grand River by Hugh Heward and his party. Begin 6AM in the park behind the fire station in Dimondale (SW of Lansing, just S of the I-96 & I-69 intersection) and travel 50 miles through Lansing, Grand Ledge and Portland. Sprint ends in Portland's Thompson Field canoe landing, at the site of the future Verlen Kruger Memorial statue. |

10 mile sprint - through the towns of Alma and
St. Louis to the Pine's confluence w/ the Chippewa
River. Go upstream on the Chippewa River through
Mt. Pleasant to a 7 mile portage. The portage takes
you back to the Pine and downstream to the trip's
end at Lumberjack Park. |
